I want to give my salute to incompetence in the media. There are so many groups that strive for recognition I regret that I only have time for a few.
The most hated of course is the fake commentator. A person whose job everyday is to come up with some fringe thought to argue over. If there is no evidence to support it then just make references and infer that it must be connected. It doesn’t matter if it’s easily disproved, many won’t make an effort at thought and will just accept the premise as possible which will eventually turn into probable. These talentless hacks exist in all branches of media from sports to politics. Sometimes they do it just get ratings but sometimes they do it for a purpose. No matter which, they distort reality which is to no ones benefit but their own. The problem is it’s fairly low cost to produce and can get ratings if someone can find a niche and has style. So these parasites, these destroyers of rationality can not only just make a living they can become icons.
I’d also like to thank the news producers who give 3 minutes of news per 30 minutes of show. Yes, thanks for filling the rest of the time with an interview of a neighbor who didn’t know either the victim or the criminal telling us that they were woken up this morning by a police siren, 3 weather segments, and yet another retelling of a story with no real update. Thank you for rerunning the same material for an hour as obviously there is no other news in the whole world other than the car accident, house fire, and charity drive this morning.
Finally, I’d like to salute all the news outlets in the Country who routinely assign the most technically complex stories to the guy that just told you about poodle grooming. Their nuanced views on subjects they know nothing about truly do help me reach new states of paranoia. As you mispronounce technical terms and ask questions that produce no clarity because you don’t know what to ask the viewer is left with nothing but fear. Oh how hard it must be to call upon an expert who might be able to say in just a few words of the importance, uncertainty, or meaningless of this headline.
